When Should You Fire Your Marketing Agency For Your Law Firm

If you’re reading this blog, you’re probably not entirely happy with the marketing agency you work with. Or maybe you are, but you’re wondering whether you should be. Are you getting everything you can from the time and resources you’re investing in your marketing efforts?

After years in the marketing business, we’ve learned to recognize three signs that it is time to fire your marketing agency and move on. See if any of these situations sound familiar.

1. Your Marketing Firm Isn’t Producing Measurable Results

There is a popular phrase in the marketing business:

Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don’t lie.

Your marketing agency should be able to show you the metrics demonstrating the results of your marketing efforts. They should produce numbers to show what campaigns are producing results and which ones need adjustment. You should be able to see numbers showing the number of potential clients who visited your website in the last month, for instance. Or how many people clicked on your social media post to learn more about your services.

You should be able to accurately track the number of new clients you are getting as a result of your marketing company’s work on your behalf. If your agency can’t show you the results, that‘s a problem.

Marketing metrics aside, you should be seeing concrete results at your firm. You should be getting new, quality clients on a consistent basis.

If you are not, then it’s time to make a change.

2. You’re Not Getting High Quality Service

Your marketing agency should be reporting results to you regularly. When you want to try something new, they should be reviewing strategies and discussing new approaches with you. You should feel like they are part of your team. You should know them on a first name basis.

If you have to pester your marketing agency just to get a call back or a response to an email, that’s a problem. They are working for you, and they need to report to you regularly.

The marketing business is a service. When your marketing company provides poor service, chances are their marketing efforts on your behalf are pretty poor as well. That means it’s time to make a change.

3. You Need to Go in a Different Direction

Sometimes, the things that got you where you are now cannot get you where you want to go in the future.

Your marketing agency might have had the perfect strategy to take you from ground zero to a moderately successful operation. But they may not have what it takes to move you beyond that plateau.

Or your agency might have understood how to market to one particular type of client, but not know what to do to reach clients in a different demographic.

If you’re changing your practice areas, want to move in a fresh direction, or just want to try different strategies, your current marketing firm may not be the right one for the job. Different stages of your business operation call for different marketing approaches.

Is it Time for You to Make a Change?

If any of these three situations made you pause to consider how well they apply in your case, then it could be time for a change. If you found yourself nodding your head at any point while reading, then it is definitely time to consider replacing your marketing agency.
